bodhi Spa Soirée event Birmingham

On the 9th May I had the delight of attending the bodhi Spa Soirée Event in Birmingham in the penthouse of the iconic Rotunda building. It was a very intimate affair with only a selected few attending. The night was hosted by the amazing Elijah Choo, the founder of bodhi.

The event enabled the invitees to try out several new Artisan Series products as well as the original bodhi products. Ever since I received my invite to the event I had been extremely excited about trying the new products, having my treatment and meeting everyone who was attending.

Prior to the Spa Soirée event invitees were given a choice of spa treatments to choose from.

At the event there were two treatments rooms. The two therapists did treatments such as the Desert Rose Rejuvenating facial massage, the Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Body treatment, the Ginger Brew Thai Tissue Massage, Neroli Lucé Revitalising Facial Massage and my choice of treatment the Flora Paradiso Balinese De-Stress Massage.

I was overjoyed to meet several bloggers that I speak to on twitter nearly on a daily basis as well as meeting new bloggers such as Samantha and Teresa (as pictured above) from I am into this

I loved meeting my very good friend Ana from Ana Goes Green (as pictured above) and other bloggers I had not met before such as the gorgeous Evelyn from We Were Raised by Wolves as well as my therapist for the evening Jessica from Spoilt Face and bloggers that I have met before Andy from Pampered Prince and Jen from bare faced chic.

Beautiful display of bodhi products
The lounge area had all the new products as well as the original ones with a therapist on hand for the invitees to try out any products of their choice. As the event was held in the Rotunda it had the most stunning views of the city.

Throughout the evening Elijah informed the invitees all about the new products and provided us with in depth information about each of the new products. As shown in the picture above I was trying the Cacao Cocoon Lip Treatment balm, which is a gorgeous hydrating lip balm that smells just like chocolate mint ice cream.

Towards the end of the evening I had my chosen treatment the Flora Paradiso Balinese De-Stress Massage in which my therapist and blogger Jessica from Spoilt Face gave me an intensive and yet relaxing back and shoulder massage. Flora Paradisco De-Stress Massage and Body Oil is a beautifully relaxing and scented body oil.

The most talked about product of the evening was the Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub. Many of the bloggers were talking about it on the evening and it wasn't until I tried the product out a few days later I knew what they were raving about. It has the most exquisite fragrance and by far the best body scrub I have tried.

The new products I tried on the evening are:

Cacao Cocoon Lip treatment Balm  - A hydrating chocolate mint scented lip balm available next month priced at £15 for 15g.

Mint Thé Temple Balm - A tiger balm style ointment which helps to relief tension and headaches. It helps to help soothe travel sickness and to also ease minor muscular aches and pains. This will be available to purchase soon and is £15 for 15g.

Rosemary Chi Himalayan Detox Salt Scrub - The most amazing body scrub on the market. A treatment scrub that relaxes the senses and makes skin beautifully hydrated and soft. This is available next month and is priced at £35 for 250g.

Ginger Brew Deep Tissue Massage & Body Oil - The recently released Thai inspired body oil blended with a potent blend of essential oils that help to relieve muscular aches, restores flexibility and encourages physical relaxation. This is £35 for 100ml.

Flora Paradiso De-Stress Massage & Body Oil - Also recently released this gorgeous hydrating body and massage oil helps to relax the mind with it fruity floral seductive addictive scent. This is £38 for 100ml.

Overall I could not have asked for a better evening and I feel honoured to have been invited to such a fantastic event. bodhi is fast becoming one of my ultimate favourite brands. Just one sniff of bodhi's products and you'll be hooked for life. bodhi's products have such beautiful scents which help to balance the mind and the soul. The performance of the products are superior to many other natural and organic brands on the market at present.

Spring Must Haves for that radiant glow

My Spring Must Haves
I feel that Spring is all about prepping skin for summer and about changing a routine from an intensive and hydrating/protective routine to a lighter one. I always accustom my routine based on the seasonal months as like many people I find my skin type changes.

Here's my Spring tips for achieving that gorgeous glow in time for the summer months.

Exfoliation

ila spa face scrub for glowing radiance

This all natural scrub is jam packed with beautiful ingredients like Cotswolds Honey and a gentle blackcurrant exfoliant. It is very effective, never leaves skin feeling dry. After use the skin feels amazingly smooth. I have never found a scrub as effective as this one. I tend to use this once to twice a week. I would advise to use this scrub only in the evening after cleansing to reduce chances of sun damage. ila spa face scrub for glowing radiance is available from here and is £38 for 50g.

Effective pore cleansing cleanser

Vaishaly Facial Wash

I like to think of this facial wash as a detox for the face. It contains lots of detoxifying ingredients such as essential oils with lime, lemon and a hint of peppermint alongside the lemon myrtle. I always notice that my pores appear smaller when using this. It is deeply refreshing, cooling and so effective in preventing and reducing troublesome spots. The Vaishaly Facial Wash is available from here and it is £45 for 150ml.

Lightweight high SPF Sunscreen

The Luzern La Defense Collagen Protection SPF30

In the summer months a common concern for people is preventing and reducing that midday shine. By switching to a lighter mineral sunscreen may help you to achieve this. The Luzern La Defense Collagen Protection SPF30 is one of the most advanced sunscreens I've ever come across as it contains advanced peptides, protects against pollution and contains 14% non nano Zinc Oxide to fully protect the skin against the full UVA wavelength and UVB rays. This beautiful lightweight sunscreen is perfect as it goes on matte and helps reduce shine. This can also be used around the eye area and can easily be incorporated into your routine by using it after your day moisturiser. The Luzern La Defense Collagen Protection SPF30 is available from Naturisimo.com priced at £36 for 100ml

Pressed powder to help reduce and absorb oil

Organic Glam Photo Finish Antioxidant Pressed Powder

This beautiful translucent mineral pressed powder makes skin have velvety feel and makes it beautifully soft, matte and flawless. It helps to reduce shine by absorbing oil and by also containing some lovely ingredients like green tea and skin communicating peptides which help to protect against free radical damage. This beautiful pressed powder is the best I've ever tried. The Organic Glam Photo Finish Antioxidant Pressed Powder from The Organic Pharmacy is available to purchase here and is £39.95 for 4g.

Facial serum

bodhi Neroli Lucé Revitalising Face Oil

I find that during the Spring and Summer months like many other people my skin tends to produce more oil. This gorgeous facial oil not only helps to lightly nourish the skin it also helps to reduce oil production and acts in the deeper layers of skin. I've never come across a lighter facial oil than this, it's so incredibly light and non greasy. This facial oil will help balance out your skin. I am a great believer that oil cuts oil and using this long term will help to regulate your own skins sebum production. Full review to follow very soon. The bodhi Neroli Lucé Revitalising Face Oil is available from here and is £32 for 15ml.

Lightweight Night Cream

Vaishaly Anti -Ageing Night Cream

I am a great believer of using night creams as they act on the upper surface of the skin to hydrate and help to push the ingredients of your serum or facial oil deeper into the skin. This exquisite night cream by Vaishaly is perfect for all skin types as it is so light and yet deeply hydrating. This is jam packed with anti ageing ingredients which help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and help to repair environmental damage. Although this night cream is perfect to use all year around, those with oily skin types or those that prefer not to use heavy night creams will love the lightness of this. Vaishaly
Anti-Ageing Night Cream is available to purchase here and is £65 for 50ml.

You can read my in-depth product review here.

Tips for being Body smooth

If your body is your main concern you may find it useful using these highly effective natural body treatments. Instead of using an expensive body scrub I like to use something inexpensive that I can use over and over again. The bodhi Bamboo Cotton Flannel is the perfect for achieving beautiful and smooth skin all over the body and at £5 it will last and last . The bamboo cotton flannel is naturally anti-microbial, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial. I love to use it with bodhi's bath and shower therapies as Palmarosa Verde or my personal favourite Jasmine Falls for the ultimate pampering treat. After exfoliating the body finish off with a gorgeous smelling light body lotion such as the John Masters Organics Blood Orange & Vanilla Body Milk (review here) which lightly hydrates without ever feeling sticky.

Internal nutrition

If you suffer with weight problems apart from focusing on daily exercise and diet you're going to want to consume things that help you to lose weight naturally. The below products I've found particularly useful of late are:

Organic Burst Spirulina

I've found that Organic Burst Spirulina powder really helps to curb cravings and prevents one from reaching for junk food. Whenever you feel like eating junk food make a organic smoothie containing Organic Burst's Spirulina powder instead. Consuming Spirulina gives you a satisfaction of feeling fuller for longer along with the amazing health benefits it provides.

Read my review on Organic Burst's range of supplements here.

The Organic Pharmacy Skin Radiance Capsules

I've taken these capsules for a number of years. These capsules are a highly nutritious supplement that assists to help nourish the skin and helps to promote the formation of collagen from deep within. The Organic Pharmacy Skin Radiance capsules contain a blend of superfoods such as organic Acai berry, Goji berries, Rosehip, Gotu Kola and bilberries. It also contains MSM, Bamboo extract (high in silica also known as the beauty mineral), Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Chitosan and Glucosamine. The capsules are very very high in antioxidants and after taking this organic supplement for the last five years I can honestly tell you that these capsules really do work and give you beautiful radiant skin not just on your face but all over your body. The Organic Pharmacy Skin Radiance capsules are available to purchase here and are £38.50 for a months supply of 120 capsules.

Organic Chia seeds

I see chia products popping up everywhere these days, I have been eating them since 2010. They are fairly inexpensive and have been found to be a particularly great replacement for unhealthy breakfasts. My favourite way of eating them is by soaking 30g in 150 ml of apple juice (organic) and left to soak for 20 minutes. After 20 mins of soaking the seeds absorb all the juice and turn into a gel like consistency (in a similar way that flax does).  Chia seeds are extremely high in nutrients and contain:
  • More Omega-3 than Atlantic Salmon or Flaxseed
  • More Antioxidants than fresh blueberries
  • More Fibre than bran flakes
  • More Calcium than 2% fat milk
(source:Raw Living)

I purchase my Organic raw Chia Seeds from Raw Living and they last for ages.

I hope you have found my Spring must haves post useful. If you have any questions regarding any further tips or information about the products featured in this article please do not hesitate to ask.

bodhi Galangal Spice Vitalising Bath and Shower Therapy

Background info

I love bodhi products as they are naturally based and contain organic ingredients whereever possible. They are beautifully luxurious and are naturally free from harsh chemicals – no parabens, no petrochemicals, no sulphates, no synthetic colours, fragrances or animal ingredients. The range was founded and created by Elijah Choo born out of his sheer passion and with over 3 years of research, development and evolution bodhi was born. The bodhi brand was born in my home town of Birmingham. Wow what a bonus, what is not to love about bodhi!

Over the past 4 months I've been using this delightful shower gel so here's my review.

Bodhi Galangal Spice Vitalising Bath & Shower invigorates and revives your body and mind with an uplifting fusion of Galangal, Cardamom and Kaffir Lime Leaf. Inspired by traditional remedies from the Far East, this is home spa rejuvenation.

Galangal is a ginger-like root that is warming and stimulating. Its antiseptic, antifungal and antibacterial benefits have been traditional harnessed in Eastern medicine. Kaffir Lime Leaf has a sharp, aromatic scent. An indisputably effective cleanser, it refreshes and uplifts the spirit, eases depression, anxiety and a tired mind. Body and senses are awakened and vitalised, skin feels refreshingly clean, never stripped dry. Suitable for all skin types.

Results and review

As stated above I've been using Galangal Spice Vitalising Bath & Shower Therapy for 4 months. I'll be honest, the scent of this was not to my liking at first as I prefer more feminine sweet floral fragrances and don't tend to like spicy scents. But you know what, I've really come to love using this and enjoy this gorgeous spicy shower gel. When applied to the skin it has a slight warming effect, probably due to the Galangal root oil. Jasmine Falls is my ultimate favourite shower gel from the range, but I only bought a travel size hence me not reviewing it. Since this is the first full size bodhi shower gel I've purchased here is my review.

I've used this as a daily shower gel, occasionally as bubble bath and also as a shampoo once to twice weekly. I love using this as a shampoo as it gets the hair super super clean and feels like it invigorates the scalp and reduces irritation. If you do try and use this as a shampoo I highly advise you follow with a conditioner. I've been using John Masters Organics Honey and Hibiscus Reconstructor conditioner. I really wish Elijah the founder of bodhi would create a conditioner, so Elijah if you find yourself reading this please please create a conditioner ;-)

I've come to the end of the bottle after using this daily and I have come to realise I'm going to miss it so this is definitely going to be a repurchase. I've been deeply impressed with the high quality feel of this product. It lathers up so well compared to other natural and organic shower gels or body washes.

A few things I love about bodhi's Bath & Shower Therapy products is that they are very concentrated and also the beautiful scent they leave on your skin which lingers.

The scents or fragrances of bodhi are similar to the way perfumes are with a Top, Heart and Base note. Galangal Spice has fragrance Top notes of Cardamon, Grapefruit and Spearmint. It has Heart notes of Galangal, Kaffir Lime Leaf, White Pepper, Rose Geranium and Clove. It has base notes of Virginia Cedarwood, Patchouli and Turmeric. The result? A deeply gorgeous intense treatment and I think the the price of £23 is justified by the high quality and high percentage of essential oils used in this product.

I think those that love spicy scents will absolutely adore this one.

Next on the menu is Palmarosa Verde Purifying Bath & Shower Therapy, review to follow once I've finished with that one.

For those who haven't tried bodhi yet what are you waiting for? If you've tried bodhi Bath & Shower Therapies which ones and how did you get on?

Aurelia Skincare the new love in my life...

I have a new love in my life and it's Aurelia skincare. Aurelia is another brand that I was introduced to by my good friend Galina, and thank goodness she did. You can read Galina's review and Q & A with the founder of Aurelia here.

Aurelia skincare is an impressive new brand which launched in January 2013. It is a British brand and manufactures its products in England. Aurelia was founded by Claire Vero, you can read more about Claire and her amazing team here. Aurelia's products are 98-99% natural and are based on probiotic technology combined with ethically sourced 100% BioOrganic botanical ingredients.

These BioOrganic ingredients are organically harvested where possible. Aurelia also sources responsibly and seeks out fair trade and sustainable sourcing where possible. Aurelia are a highly pure and clean brand, never tested on animals.

Aurelia skincare products are free from:
  • Parabens
  • Mineral Oil
  • Silicone
  • Synthetic Fragrances and Colours
  • Sulfates
  • Propylene Glycol
  • Phthalates
  • GMOs
  • Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)
  • Triethanolamine (TEA)
  • Diethanolamine (DEA)
  • Alcohol
  • Phenoxyethanol

The products have been designed to be suitable for all skin types and are based on scientifically proven research with the concept that they help to manage the level of inflammation within the skin which this is one of the main causes of skin ageing. The products also help to regenerate cell metabolism, prevent cellular DNA damage, boosts hyaluronic acid tenfold and increases collagen synthesis.

Aurelia is different from other probiotic skincare lines on the market, as Aurelia's unique Probiotics technology has been developed by a leading biotech and uses immune modulatory glycoproteins from bifido bacteria to generate targeted responses in the skin, balancing stress-damaged skin and stabilising the skin’s defence system. Aurelia addresses the inflammation caused by stress and environmental aggressors it does this by maintaining balance within the adaptive immune system (working on cytokines) ensuring the skin is optimally responsive.

In addition to Aurelia's Probiotics technology, they also have two complexes which work in perfect synergy with their probiotic technology. Their repair complex helps balance skin and Aurelia's peptide complex works on the visible signs of ageing encouraging greater synthesis of fibroblasts which results in the skin producing 140% more collagen and 10 times the natural level of hyaluronic acid vital for skin support, cellular repair and hydration.

Currently Aurelia have five products, their Miracle Cleanser, Cell Revitalise Day Moisturiser, Cell Revitalise Night Moisturiser, Revitalise and Glow Serum, Cell Repair Night Oil and their unique beautifully soft bamboo muslin cloths.

Here's my review and experiences of using Aurelia skincare. The only product I haven't used is the Cell Repair Night Oil. I have also gone into a little depth with my favourite the Night Moisturiser.

Review of Miracle Cleanser

I feel that Aurelia's Miracle Cleanser is good enough to rival any of these popular hot cloth cleansers on the market. It comes with the softest bamboo muslin that feels as fine as a handkerchief but is a very effective cleansing and exfoliating tool.
This aromatic cleanser has a gorgeously creamy texture. Before applying I love to inhale the exquisite fragrance of the cleanser in which I can smell notes of Eucalyptus, Chamomile and Rosemary. Once the cleanser is applied, I like to add some water on my finger tips which gives the skin a lovely cooling sensation. Once the cleanser is wet, it feels like it emulsifies and I like to perform a massage before removing it with the muslin. I've also tried it with the Clarisonic and it works just beautifully - after using it with the Clarisonic for a couple of minutes on the face and neck, I remove the cleanser with the muslin and then rinse. It feels like a double cleanse. After using the Miracle Cleanser my skin feels clean, soft, glowing and is left with no residue. The cleanser also feels particularly purifying but also hydrating at the same time. I don't feel it is necessary to use a toner after using this as it truly does remove everything. Comparing this cleanser to others, it reminds me of a purer version of Liz Earle's Cleanse and Polish, only way more effective. This cleanser delivers all the claims it states. I've also never heard of a cleanser containing peptides before, this is very clever indeed. This cleanser is pure luxury.

£34 for 120ml and Aurelia’s antibacterial bamboo muslin

Review of Revitalise Day Moisturiser

The Day Moisturiser initially feels quite rich to the touch and yet easily absorbs into the skin. It leaves my skin feeling non greasy, perfectly hydrated and prepped for sunscreen and foundation. I've also found the Day Moisturiser also makes a great eye cream.  As you can see from the ingredients list above it contains some amazing ingredients making this a fantastic anti ageing moisturiser for both treating the signs of ageing but also preventing further ageing to the skin.
It has a refreshing uplifting scent of what smells like Jasmine and Mandarin. It feels very nourishing and delivers glowing results. Due to the high amounts of antioxidants and the probiotic complex and peptide complex it helps to protect against pollution. As a man it also does not sting after shaving. It is very soothing and helps to diminish redness very quickly. Overall an effective anti ageing day cream which goes a long way, providing excellent results.

Review of Revitalise Night Moisturiser

Aurelia's Night Moisturiser is absolutely beautiful. This is my favourite product from the line. The scent of this Night Moisturiser is beyond euphoric. I find that it helps me to relax and sleep better. In comparison to the Day Moisturiser it feels ever so slightly richer and seems to melt (probably due to the shea butter) into the skin. It feels very conventional in texture and is deeply nourishing. I find this little piece of heaven deeply effective as when I wake up in the morning I have beautiful glowing skin. This night cream also has lots of repairing ingredients:

Aloe Vera which is one of the base ingredients of the night moisturiser has many amazing properties such as being anti inflammatory, antioxidant, and antibacterial qualities. It's super soothing and helps to repair, heal and boosts collagen production within the skin. Aloe Vera has the ability to penetrate layers of the skin four times faster than water and allows other anti ageing ingredients to penetrate deeper and act more efficiently. Aloe Vera also enhances elasticity in the skin and gives the skin a more youthful appearance.
Aurelia's Probiotic Complex has been developed to help prevent ageing and achieve radiant skin. Immune modulatory glycoproteins from the bifido bacteria generate and moderate targeted impulses within the skin to balance stress-damaged skin and stabilise the skin's defence system helping to control the level of inflammation within our skin. They work by protecting the skin against excessive levels of cytokines which are produced in response to stresses such as excessive exposure to UV light. By supporting the right balance of these cytokines, the Probiotic Complex promotes the natural repair process and helps to counteract the signs of premature aging.
Borage oil is one of the richest sources of the essential fatty acid GLA (gamma linolenic acid), which helps to lock moisture into the skin.
Rosehip oil is a super anti ageing ingredient that helps to reduce scar tissue, helps diminish signs of ageing such as fine lines and wrinkles and helps to reduce sun damage.
Kigelia compounds include fatty acids, sterols and glycosides. Several scientific studies in recent years suggest that Kigelia has remarkable healing and conditioning effects on the skin particularly for anti-ageing, regenerative and anti-inflammatory purposes. It also helps with skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
Hibiscus flower extract is rich in free radical fighting antioxidants and helps reduce oxidative stress within the skin. Often known as a 'botox plant' due to the powerful skin firming and plumping effect we see. It also has exfoliating properties thus increasing the cell turnover.
Baobab is superfruit which has 6 times more vitamin C than an orange and an antioxidant level which is more than double that of pomegranates and cranberries and more than three times that of blueberries.
Baobab is cold pressed to preserve the essential minerals and nutrients. The oil is high in vitamins A, D and E and improves the skin's elasticity and hydration. Also contains vitamins B1, B2 and Phosphorous.
Avocado Oil is an excellent emollient which helps with any dryness and issues of dehydration.
Apricot Oil good for dry, sensitive or inflamed skin. Its wonderfully light texture ensures easy absorption into the epidermis. It is rich in vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, B17 and E and both oleic acid and linolenic acid (essential fatty acids).
Mongongo oil contains high levels of vitamin E and linoleic and eleostearic acids making it a very useful oil for skin protection. It is effective not only in hydrating the skin but also for restructuring and regenerating the epidermis. The eleostearic acid reacts rapidly with UV light, producing polymerisation and providing a protective layer. The high vitamin E content also provides the oil with excellent stability.
Rose Oil is comprised of a very complex mixture of over 300 compounds, some of which are yet to be identified. Some of the compounds of Rose oil have powerful antioxidant and cell regenerating properties. Rose helps to protect cells against photo damage and prevents capillary damage. The rose oil also helps assist in creating the euphoric scent of the cream.
Acetyl Tetrapeptide-15 is a peptide which works as an anti-inflammatory for the skin.

I highly recommend this Night Moisturiser for those that are concerned with treating the signs of ageing and those that want a pure high luxury natural night moisturiser. Review of Revitalise and Glow Serum

This beautiful serum has a light fluid texture which is easily absorbed into the skin and leaves skin with a non greasy finish. I like using this as an anti ageing boost. It is partially refreshing to use after I've shaved as the serum is very soothing and calming to the skin. This is truly like a drink for the skin, you can feel it plumping and hydrating as it penetrates.
Like all of Aurelia's products this is packed with anti ageing goodness. I love researching anti ageing ingredients and I have come to realise there is not one miracle ingredient that does it all, instead the skin requires many substances to function in a younger and healthier manner. I'm a huge fan of anti ageing products and this serum contains all the necessary state of the art ingredients and technology to treat the signs of ageing, help to stimulate collagen, and help the skin defend and repair itself from environmental aggressors.
The fragrance of this serum smells very similar to the Day Moisturiser. Those with oily skin types will love how light this gorgeous serum is on their skin.
This preventative anti ageing serum hydrates wonderfully and soothes dry skin whilst promoting a luminous and dewy finish. I cannot wait to see the results of using this serum long term say over several years.

Overall impressions of Aurelia

I adore the Miracle Cleanser's scent and the way it makes my skin so soft. I'm addicted to the euphoric scent of the Night Moisturiser and the Serum is intensely refreshing to use. Aurelia is everything that I could have hoped for and so into my Star Products it goes. I love that the products are pure and highly effective whilst being alcohol free. I also love that Aurelia contains organic ingredients that are ethically sourced. All the exquisite fragrances are different for each product. Although I love all of the products, the Night Moisturiser is my ultimate favourite. Women beware if your partner gets hold of the products he will be stealing them when you're not looking!

I am very pleased that Aurelia's products do not break the bank either, I've seen many less advanced products which are far more expensive. The packaging is also fully recyclable. Aurelia have confirmed that their stability tests have proven the products will remain in perfect condition and actives remain stable and not degrade after opening.

Aurelia strikes the perfect balance of scientifically proven research, luxury and natural organic skincare. I've been absolutely blown away by this brand, they really do stand out. Of late Aurelia has got some rave reviews and I'm not surprised one little bit. Everything from the packaging, the formulations themselves to the glow the products give your skin is magnificent. The products are extremely luxurious and absolutely stunningly beautiful. Hand on heart I cannot speak highly enough of Aurelia Skincare. This brand is definitely one to watch and I am extremely grateful to have discovered them.

Desert Island Holy Grail Products with Ana

Source:desertisland
Two green beauty bloggers and their Holy Grail Products.

Of late I've seen many green bloggers participating in blog collaborations. I nearly joined one the other day but unfortunately it was for ladies only. So the lovely Ana from Ana Goes Green and I have decided to do our own collaboration of Desert Island Holy Grail Products.

If you would like to join in you are very welcome to, simply choose five Holy Grail products, imagine you were stuck on a desert island and you could only take five things with you, which products could you not live without. It is open to everyone not just green bloggers, if you would like your post to be linked to this one then when you have written your post send us your link via twitter or email.

Ana's twitter: Anagoesgreen

Danny's twitter: dannistokes

Here is Ana's and my Top 5 Holy Grail (HG) products and reasons why:

Ana's
1) REN Moroccan Rose Otto body cream
Source: Ren Skincare
I can't believe I haven't gotten round to reviewing this little beauty yet but it is my all time favourite body lotion. It has an exquisite smell and an amazing texture that leaves my skin feeling wonderfully soft, I have never come across a product that is so lovely to use so for me it is a Holy grail item. This rose scent is fresh and slightly sweet, not like the old fashioned rose that you tend to imagine.

2) John Master Honey and Hibiscus Hair reconstructor
Source: John Masters UK
I adore everything about this shampoo, since using this my hair feels stronger and it has grown longer than it ever has done before. The smell is spectacular and it creates a wonderful lather. I adore all of John Masters shampoos and conditioners the brand for me has the best haircare available.

3) Bodhi Jasmine falls shower gel
Source: Amarya
I adore the gorgeous sweet floral scent of this shower gel, it's one of those products that just makes me feel better when I use it. A small amount goes a long way and it makes a lovely soft lather.

4) Pai Chamomile and Rosehip moisturiser
Source: Pai website
Pai moisturisers are great for my sensitive skin, I know I can always count on this cream to give me soft skin and it helps to take away redness on my cheeks. If I could only choose one moisturiser this would be the one I couldn't live without.
5) Essential care concealer
As I could only pick five items I only included included one makeup item, because I love my skincare and body care so much. But this little concealer does a great job of covering dark circles and blemishes so it is a really useful choice. It has a creamy texture and is easy to blend, it has great staying power for a natural concealer, you can read Ana's full review here.

Danny's

1) Vaishaly Anti-Ageing Day Moisturiser SPF15 dry/sensitive

My ultimate number one HG product would have to be the Vaishaly Anti-Ageing Day Moisturiser SPF15 (dry/sensitive version). I've been using it for the last 7 years and it is the product that makes most difference to my skin. It makes my skin look flawless! I love everything about it, the smell, it's 80% organic, it contains an SPF (via Zinc Oxide), it can be used around the eye area and it provides excellent results whists working perfectly with my sensitive skin. It's an exceptional multitasker. On a desert island it would help nourish and protect my skin from the harmful UV rays which ages our skin. I am yet to review this product as it has been out of stock for some time but you can read one of my earlier reviews of the sister normal/combination version here.

2) Vaishaly Cleansing Balm

My all time favourite cleanser would also have to be from Vaishaly with the gorgeous aromatic Cleansing Balm. This 100% natural and 86.5% organic Cleansing Balm is different to most cleansing balms as it actually emulsifies with water and rinses off without the need for a muslin cloth. Emulsifying with water allows you to perform a massage. It smells divine and makes cleansing the face a blissful experience. On a desert island this would help to keep my face clean and beautifully soft and the aromatherapy benefits would lift my sprits.

You can read my review of this exquisite cleanser here.

3) Luzern Laboratories WE3 Serum

This serum is perfect for those of us that want to look young for as long as possible. Apart from a good cleanser and SPF our skin needs some good anti ageing ingredients. The Luzern Laboratories WE3 (which stands for triple wrinkle erase) is one of the most advanced serums I've ever come across that actually works. Many say that prevention is better than cure so if I was stuck on a desert island I wouldn't want to be without this organic anti ageing serum. It contains many cell communicating ingredients like several peptides, swiss apple stem cells and Bio-Swiss organic Alpine extracts that keep those pesky fine lines and wrinkles at bay. This is a gentle yet effective formula in an aloe vera base that is so easy to incorporate into any routine.

You can read my review of the WE3 Serum here.

4) Tata Harper Repairative Moisturiser

This was a difficult one, choosing a non SPF moisturiser is an inconvenience for some but the 100% natural Tata Harper Repairative Moisturiser is what I wouldn't want to be without on a desert island. This super advanced 68.64% organic moisturiser has a calming and relaxing scent. It is so refreshing, nourishing and really quenches the skin's thirst. It is also anti ageing and packed full of natural actives (26) that give your skin a natural radiance and glow. This product is ideal for those with sensitive and dry skin types. This is also ideal for day time and night time use. Packed with antioxidants this protects and repairs the skin which gets rid of redness and irritation which would be essential on a desert island.

You can read my review on this here.

5) Sisley Paris Skinleya Anti Ageing Foundation

As you can tell by now my HG products are anti ageing. So why stop with skincare products? OK this foundation is not a natural one but I have never come across a natural foundation that has the performance of one containing silicones. Sisley used to be a favourite of mine when I was just discovering skincare. This foundation is alcohol and paraben free. The texture feels luxurious and it gives my skin full coverage and is packed with anti ageing ingredients. This foundation also contains the same amount of anti ageing skincare technology as their best serum. It makes me look a lot younger than I am. I always want to look my best and being on a desert island should not change this.

You can read my review of Skinleya here.

Luzern Laboratories Force De Vie Creme Luxe Moisturiser

Background info

Luzern Laboratories is an incredible organic anti ageing brand from the United States. Currently in the UK it is only available via Naturisimo.com
I have loved the Luzern Laboratories products that I've tried so far and if you look at the ingredients lists you will see that they have super advanced anti ageing formulas. The Wrinkle Erase serum (you can view my review of it here) is one of the most advanced anti ageing products I've ever used. It's packed full of peptides and antioxidants and instant lifting technology. Being impressed with the serum I was so excited to try the Force De Vie Creme anti ageing moisturiser and received it as one of my Christmas gifts (I know right lucky me!)

I am surprised that Luzern Laboratories hasn't got more of a cult following in the UK as it is truly a super effective organic and free from toxins brand. Luzern Laboratories products contain certified organic botanicals and medical grade cosmeceuticals resulting in pure, advanced and luxurious organic skincare. You can read about the benefits of the amazing and advanced ingredients here - http://www.luzernlabs.com/ingredients.php

For those that are looking for organic anti ageing products whether to prevent or to treat the signs of ageing, I highly recommend that you look into Luzern Laboratories products. They have cleansers, toners, a scrub, anti ageing moisturisers, a mask and highly concentrated serums that suit every skin concern and skin type. The brand even has a sunscreen that contains broad spectrum Zinc Oxide and is so gentle it can be used around the eye area.

According to the brand, Luzern Laboratories spares no expense in formulating with the most effective anti ageing ingredients. Luzern products contain an average of 80% Bio-Active ingredients - eight times the average of other brands. Also whilst many of Luzern's ingredients and formulas are from Switzerland their products are blended and bottled in the United States.

In addition to the way Luzern Laboratories products are manufactured the mixing of products are done in smaller batches to ensure ingredient efficacy by cold processing which means the skin care products are not “heated to oblivion” thereby killing the most active and effective ingredients.

Luzern Laboratories is not a 100% natural brand. It is an organic line that also contains cosmeceuticals such as Oxygen, Vitamins, Phyto-Chemicals, Peptides, Anti-Oxidants and Polyphenols. A few Luzern Laboratories products do contain some small amounts of Cyclomethicone which is a synthetic silicone but this is quite a beneficial ingredient to the skin by being protective and creating a wonderfully smooth and silky feel on the skin. Luzern Laboratories confirms in their FAQ section that it is completely safe, as it stays on the surface of the skin - the molecules are too big to physically enter past the upper living cells.

I love the fact that the brand provides complete ingredients lists on the website which shows that they have nothing to hide.

Luzern Laboratories skin care offers:
  • Certified organic plant extracts
  • Pharmaceutical-grade actives
  • Fresh-Mixed in small batches
  • Paraben and formaldehyde free
  • Hypo-Allergenic
  • Non-Comedogenic
  • No Animal Testing.

Application and texture

I cannot believe this is an organic cream. It's unlike any organic and natural based cream I've ever tried. It feels very conventional in texture feeling very silky and smooth. I've been absolutely blown away with results and the dewy glow it provides my skin. It has a mild hint of a herbal fragrance that is pleasant and not too over powering. The brand advises to apply this moisturiser AM/PM to cleansed face and neck, and it is excellent as a night cream and has been designed for all skin types.

Results and review

Luzern Force De Vie Creme is a beautiful, silky and luxurious moisturiser free of chemicals which does not compromise on results. It reminds me of a premium chemical brand but without having to feel guilty that I'm smothering my skin in harsh chemicals.
Performance wise it provides an excellent base for makeup and makes my skin glow with radiance. I'm so glad that Naturisimo.com found this amazing brand.

This cream is amazingly silky and smooth, it feels hydrating upon application. It also has a very soothing effect. As mentioned above in Background Info this does contain Cyclomethicone which is a type of synthetic silicone but after doing some research it appears that this does not have any adverse effects on the human body and is incredibly safe to use. Cyclomethicone forms a protective barrier on the skin to prevent water loss and also can be a carrying agent. Luzern Labs states in their FAQs that it is completely safe, as it stays on the surface of the skin and that the molecules are too big to physically enter past the upper living cells. For those concerned with using silicones I haven't experienced any irritation or breakouts from using this moisturiser on my highly sensitive skin.

One thing I will say is this cream lasts ages, I've been using it since Christmas day everyday (now end of March) in the day time and occasionally at night and I still have a great deal left. A little goes a very long way indeed with this moisturiser.

Some of the key actives of this moisturiser include:

Saccharomyces Lysate Extract

Saccharomyces Lysate Extract is a live yeast cell derivative, the ingredient in this product which is the Oxygen Booster. Luzern Laboratories claim that it has anti-inflammatory, soothing, anti irritant, cell renewing, cell respiration, fine line minimising, smoothing and moisturising properties.

Research shows that stressed yeast cell derivatives have been widely explored for wound healing applications, with several references suggesting that biodynes stimulate epithelisation and collagen synthesis 3-5. They have been used in combination with other actives to achieve enhanced benefits in various medical treatments, due to its ability to potentiate other actives.

O2 respiration was compared against the untreated control reading, which was done on fibroblasts alone. Incorporation of 0.25% Biodynes® TRF® resulted in a 17% increase in O2 respiration from control.
 (Source:http://www.luzernlabs.com/faq.php)

The Saccharomyces Lysate Extract certainly sounds like a superb ingredient and also sounds very scientific.

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt form of the skin identical ingredient hyaluronic acid (HA). HA occurs naturally in the deeper layers of the skin. HA's help the skin stay smooth and give it a plumped appearance as it has the ability to hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. The ability to retain and hold moisture is the secret to youthful looking, healthy skin. As we age the skin begins to lose its ability to retain moisture, we begin to lose elasticity, and lines and wrinkles appear. HA puts back what is naturally lost to restore radiance and youthful looking skin.

Co-Enzyme Q10

Most of us will have heard of Coenzyme Q10 as it's a popular anti ageing ingredient. It is a fat-soluble vitamin present in all human cells. It is a super antioxidant and is responsible for cell protection and production of the body’s energy. It is the "spark" that provides the energy your cells need for collagen and elastin production, nutrient utilisation, and to fight free radicals. As we age our body's ability to produce this vital Coenzyme diminishes, and our skin becomes more prone to the effects of ageing, especially wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. Luzern uses state-of-the-art, time-released liposomes to carry Co-Q10 deep into the skin where it's needed most.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid

This is an enzyme and powerful antioxidant which improves cellular energy production and reduces inflammation- a major cause of ageing.  Alpha-Lipoic Acid helps provides skin cells superior antioxidant protection and also makes other antioxidants, such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and CoQ10, work better.

Vitamin C

When applied to the skin, Vitamin C helps to stimulate collagen production and protects the skin from environmental damage. Vitamin C also helps to firm and brighten the skin, imparting the skin with a more even tone and porcelain effect.  Luzern uses both water-soluble and fat soluble versions of Vitamin C to ensure the delivery of the most potent and stable form of this powerful antioxidant.

Edelweiss Extract

Edelweiss Extract is considered to be the Star of the Alps as its compounds help to protect and aid and soothe irritated skin. Edelweiss is also known for its high concentration of antioxidants and radical-scavenging properties. It works wonders with stressed and sensitive skin.

I love that Luzern Laboratories avoids using Parabens, Formaldehyde, Sodium Laural Sulfates, PEG, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol,  Synthetic Fragrance, Synthetic Colours, Mineral Oils and Alcohols.

Although this isn't a 100% natural formula it contains an excellent array of beneficial anti ageing ingredients for the skin. I guess sometimes with skincare it is about finding a balance and trialing products to find what works for you and your skin.

For those who are looking for an high tech and high performance anti ageing moisturiser then look no further than this product as it delivers the moisture and radiance it promises.

Thank you for reading my review of this exceptional moisturiser, I hope you found it useful. If you have tried this product then please leave a comment below.
