Bodhi Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil

Background info

Bodhi products are natural based, with organic ingredients used whereever possible. They are highly luxurious and are naturally free from harsh chemicals – no parabens, no petrochemicals, no sulphates, no synthetic colours, fragrances or animal ingredients. The range was founded and created by Elijah Choo born out of his sheer passion and with over 3 years of research, development and evolution Bodhi was born. The Bodhi brand was born in my home town of Birmingham. Wow what a bonus, what is not to love about Bodhi!

I was introduced to Bodhi by blogger Bare Faced Chic after reading her review on the Bodhi Ylang Ylang Incensa Bath & Shower Therapy. After hearing the range was available in Harvey Nichols Birmingham, I went along to try the testers. I fell in love with the Jasmine Falls Collection, mainly due to the scent of the products.

In August 2012 Bodhi launched this their first facial skin care product the Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil, which I was extremely excited to try. I was invited to the launch event in London for beauty bloggers but unfortunately I could not get the time off work to attend. With Bodhi being based in the Midlands, Elijah kindly organised a little Birmingham event for a few of us that could not attend the London launch event. I had the pleasure of meeting Elijah, Jen (Bare Faced Chic) and also Andy (Pampered Prince). You can read about Andy's blog post on the evening here.

Elijah very kindly gave us an Essentials Skin Care Set which included travel sizes of Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Bath & Shower Therapy (50ml) Palmarosa Verde Purifying Bath & Shower Therapy (50ml)
Ylang-Ylang Incensa Sensual Body Moisturiser (40ml) Bamboo Cotton Eco-Luxe Body & Face Flannel and the Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil (5ml).

As regular readers may notice I don't usually do reviews on travel or sample sized products however, due to the oil being so concentrated the amount of uses I got from this (2 weeks) I felt I was able to use the product long enough to do a review.

Product description

"Introducing the first of our Artisan Series: an ultra-fine face oil harnessing the potent anti-ageing benefits of Bulgarian Damask Rose Otto, Organic Moroccan Argan Oil and Rosehip Seed Oil. Rich in essential vitamins, anti-oxidants and fatty-acids, it is designed to intensely hydrate skin, help stimulate skin cell rejuvenation and increase cell regeneration to combat ageing. Leaves skin protected in a sheer gossamer of ultra-nourishing glow and perfumed with an intoxicating citrus-honey floral scent.

Skin is instantly transformed to feel cashmere soft and velvety smooth. Complexion appears dramatically refined, renewed and even-toned with a youthful glowing radiance. Fine lines are visibly diminished.

Skin Type: Normal/dry, dehydrated, sensitive, mature or stressed skin.

Bulgarian Damask Rose Otto is highly nourishing and an excellent emollient. This legendary precious oil helps tone, smooth, soften, repair and regenerate skin cells to bring a glowing radiance to skin.

Organic Moroccan Argan Oil is rich in essential fatty acids to help restore skin’s elasticity and preserve cell integrity. Also helps stimulate cell renewal, rehydrates dry, damaged skin and effectively reduces wrinkles to reverse the ageing process.

Rosehip Seed Oil consists of 80% essential fatty acids and is high in anti-ageing Vitamins A, B and C to help diminish signs of ageing. Its high absorption level makes it easy to penetrate skin and restore moisture balance, replenish the lipid barrier of the skin thus triggering regeneration of damaged cells.

Tunisian Neroli Oil helps boost the natural healing of dry, sensitive skin by triggering the growth of new healthy skin cells. It also improves skin’s elasticity and helps soften fine lines.

Kukui Nut Oil contains Vitamins A, C and E, and is very high in Alpha Linolenic Acid (Omega 3), Oleic Acid (Omega 9) and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6) – all the antioxidants needed to keep your skin looking younger.

Strawberry Seed Oil is a strong yet ultra-fine emollient to provide a combination of antioxidant properties and prevent free-radical damage. Helps improve skin tone, increases skin radiance, smooth out wrinkles and lightens freckles.

Evening Primrose Oil is exceptionally rich in Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA) to help reduce skin inflammation and support the collagen and elastin structure. Also rejuvenates and revitalises tired or mature skin.

Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps prevent premature aging and works to boost collagen, thus improving skin elasticity and diminishes wrinkles. Its ability to fight free-radical damage and increase cell regeneration helps lighten brown spots on skin.

Application and texture

This is a divine face oil. The oil feels refreshingly light and penetrates easily into the skin. It is golden in colour and smells extremely beautiful (like Rose and honey). It does not leave a greasy finish after application. Whenever I use this product my skin looks beautifully glowing and never greasy.

I prefer to use this product at night at least an hour before bed to ensure that all the oil has penetrated my skin and does not end up on my pillowcase. The fragrance of this product helps me to sleep as I find it so relaxing.

Results and Review

Rich and yet easily absorbed into the skin. You can feel your skin drinking this oil in. It leaves my skin with a dewy glowy finish. Unlike many facial oils I've tried I've found that you can use this in the day time. I very rarely use facial oils during the day due to them leaving my skin looking greasy, I was pleasantly surprised that this is not the case with Bodhi Desert Rose. It seems to penetrate deeper and doesn't sit on top of the skin like most facial oils do.
I asked the Bodhi founder why this was the case with Desert Rose and this was his response:
"This is due to the quality of premiums oils we use in Desert Rose Rejuvenating Face Oil. These oils are selected and blended to achieve a serum-like texture that penetrates the skin deeply to instantly rejuvenate and nourish skin from within. Our Argan Oil is sourced from an organic farm in Morocco. Bulgarian Damask Rose is a precious beauty oil renown for its anti-ageing capabilities. Sourced from the Valley of Roses, we use a highly potent quantity in our face oil to help skin look radiant and revitalised. The scent of roses is just an added bonus to this product."
Being a fan of raw organic skincare I also asked Elijah whether Desert Rose contained any cold pressed or Co2 Extracts and here is his response:
"All essential oils used are distilled from their botanical origins. Argan, Jojoba, Rose Hip, Kukui Nut, Sweet Almond and Strawberry Seed oils are all cold-pressed".
Due to the concentrations of the premium oils used in this product it wasn't long before I started seeing beautiful results. This facial oil feels luxurious and the smell is just to die for, it's absolutely exquisite. Rose is my ultimate fragrance of choice so this is perfect for me. Many people associate rose as being old fashioned however, this has a slight scent of honey which makes it very sweet and not old fashioned in the slightest.
Just look at all the amazing anti ageing oils used in this product. It contains an amazing amount of roses (approximately 1000 roses per 30ml bottle). Rose is renown for its anti ageing benefits, Rose contain over 300 compounds many of which have not been identified. It also contains Rosehip seed oil and Argan oil which are well known for their anti ageing and healing properties. I love to use serums containing Rosehip in the summer months as it helps to repair sun damage. I'd love to use this as a night serum during the Summer and Autumn.

I have heard nothing but positive comments on this divine product. I cannot wait to purchase the full size and to see the long term effects of this beautiful product. I would love Bodhi to create a Desert Rose face cream, now that would be heaven!

I look forward to the release of future Bodhi face products. I hear that several releases are coming this year. I expect them to be as beautiful as this face oil.

    1. Hi Jenny,

Thank you for reading my review. I've used Pai's Rosehip oil in the past, I think this is far more potent and luxurious compared to the Pai. The fragrance of this is just to die for. I love Rosehip oil but I wouldn't say it is a miracle ingredient on its own and I think it's far more superior when combined with other ingredients such as Argan Oil. Please let me know how you get on with this.

      Many kind regards,

      Danny x
