S5 Skincare Renew Serum

Background info

I was introduced to S5 Skincare by my good friend Galina AP. Both Galina and I have similar tastes and like to use high end luxury and high performance skincare. I was excited to try the brand based on Galina's recommendation. I was deeply impressed with Galina's superbly in depth review of the S5 skincare range entitled Review of S5 Skincare - organic cosmeceuticals range.

S5 Skincare was launched in late 2012 so it's still a very new brand to the organic skincare market. For those who aren't familiar with S5, it is a range of certified organic cosmeceuticals. All S5 products are EcoCert certified and use only 100% natural active ingredients. S5 skincare is ideal for those with sensitive skin and the range is free from Parabens, SLS/SLES, PEGS, DEA, Mineral Oil, Silicon, Propylene Glycol, GMO and synthetic fragrances.

S5 Skincare has been created by Laura Rudoe and Violaine Bargues. The S5 range is based on a whole new concept by sourcing and incorporating ingredients of bioactives that are sustainably sourced from the 5 most extreme types of Ecosystem on the planet to combat the main activators of skin stress.

These 5 Ecosystems are:

Alpine
Arctic
Desert
Marine
Rainforest

Click on the above links to learn about the Ecosystems and the powerful bioactives that S5 uses in its skincare.

S5 is a creation from the Good Ventures company, some of you may have also heard of or used Evolve skincare which is also a Good Ventures brand. I like to think of S5 as being the premium sister of the Evolve brand.

So far I've only tried the Renew Serum but I am so deeply impressed with the results that I want to try the whole range especially the Restore Cream.

Product description

The S5 Skincare Renew Serum is a targeted age-defying treatment for fine lines & wrinkles with arctic bioactives.

An anti-ageing treatment serum which uses the latest in organic cosmeceutical ingredients to plump and smooth the skin reducing the appearance of wrinkles for younger looking skin.

Key actives:

Antarctic Glycoproteins - produced by a unique bacteria found at the bottom of a glacier in antarctica, these natural proteins deliver a 44% reduction in wrinkle depth and a 128% increase in type 1 collagen production.

Botanical Peptides - with a freezing effect. Clinically proven to inhibit muscle contraction and smooth the appearance of deep expression lines (-26% wrinkle depth reduction).

Low Molecular Weight Natural Hyaluronic Acid - locks moisture into skin, reduces skin hyper reactivity and stimulates epidermal regeneration.

Packaging

The S5 Renew Serum is presented in a clear glass bottle with a screw on pipette which comes in a box.

Application and texture

I like to take a couple of drops of the serum and put it on the palm of my hand and then dot it over the central points of my face. Then I spread it all over my face, around the eye area and neck. This serum has quite a unusual unique texture which is similar to that of a lotion whilst being quite creamy to the touch. It spreads on the skin very easily and upon skin contact it feels like my skin is drinking it in, leaving my skin feeling hydrated. This serum does not take much time to rub into the skin and leaves the skin feeling very smooth after application. Roughly around 10-15 seconds after application the serum has been completely absorbed. I then like to apply the rest of my routine whether it's my day moisturiser, sunscreen or night time regimen. S5 also advise that you can also add a couple of drops of the serum to your moisturiser but I prefer it as a separate layer to feel the individual benefits.

Results and review

Now at the age of 28 I am constantly on the lookout for anti ageing skincare. I'm a sucker for anything that states it is anti ageing and organic. This Renew Serum is designed for fine lines and wrinkles so it greatly caught my attention.

It contains advanced botanical peptides which are the Hydrolyzed Hibiscus Esculentus Extract. These peptides are the ones with the "freezing" effect and are proven to inhibit muscle contractions and smooth the appearance of expression lines. This is great as a preventative and also for those with fine lines.

I've been using this serum mainly at night and occasionally during the day since late January. I have to say that I am extremely pleased with this anti ageing serum, I absolutely adore it. It's a beautiful serum and I love everything about it. The formulation is perfect and it is giving me excellent glowing results. It feels highly luxurious and hydrates my skin well.  I also enjoy the fragrance of this serum, it reminds me of the sweets I used to have as a child called dolly bead necklaces. The smell is extremely addictive and I have never used a product that smells so sweet. Having tried so many other organic and natural serums and this serum is becoming one of my favourites.

What appeals to me is the collagen stimulating effect caused by the Antarctic Glycoproteins. Please refer to the product description above for the key actives and their beneficial effects that they have on the skin.

The only thing I'm not keen is the packaging and this is why I gave the product a 4 star rating. Although the packaging has not affected the serum's performance in anyway I would just prefer if the serum was in an airless pump just for sheer convenience and what I believe would be better for the active ingredients of the serum.

I like the fact S5 is quite affordable too and they have products to suit every skin type or concern. Check out this new and exciting brand at www.s5skincare.com

    1. Hi Ana,

Thank you for reading. It's a very interesting brand and quite refreshing to add to the market. I love the way S5 have such a wide variety of products. I'm looking forward to trying more from the range due to being so impressed with it. I would definitely recommend you give the trial sizes a ago although I am sure you will love whatever you decided to get from the range.

  3. This sounds lovely. Funny how you say a £50+ serum is affordable Danny, for some people that certainly isn't affordable LOL :)

    1. Hi Andy,

Yes this is a lovely gorgeous serum. Andy you should know me by now and know that I love to use expensive products. This is reasonably priced compared to some of the products I review which are more expensive. For what this product does I would say it is good value for money. x

    1. Hi Alice,

Yes I completely agree with you on that prevention is better than cure. I think it's best to incorporate anti ageing products into your routine as soon as you can. I started at the age of 20. Once you start you can't go back! x
