Dr Jackson's Skin Cream 02

Background info

I first came across this brand when I was on the hunt for a natural SPF in Birmingham city centre. I remember my last call being Harvey Nichols. Whilst browsing the natural section I noticed some little brown jars on the bottom shelf. Curious as to what they were I picked up a Dr Jackson's day cream. The packaging looked very plain and simple with them being housed in plain cardboard boxes. I looked at the ingredients list and I was very impressed. I had never heard of the brand before and I started to wonder where it had been hiding. I couldn't wait to get home to research it. After reading up on the brand and researching their products I really wanted to try these products out.

Dr Jackson's products are a small range of luxury products that have been laboriously researched, formulated and produced by one of the world’s leading scientists in plant medicine. Dr Jacksons only use the highest quality ingredients and their products are formulated scientifically ensuring the regenerative, protective and damage reversal properties of the plant extracts used achieve visible results. They are also manufactured in the UK.

Whilst a young student on an expedition in the Amazon rainforest Dr Simon Jackson was taken under the wing of a local Shaman from the Jaguar tribe. This old man shared with him the knowledge of the many plants that provided the primary health care for his tribe’s ailments and had done for many generations. This knowledge was not written anywhere but had been passed down from his forefathers through many generations of medicine men. This began Simon’s fascination with nature’s amazing and complex powers of healing and the ancient medicines derived from indigenous flora from different parts of the world. He has travelled around the globe since, to many of the ancient rain forests and lived with local tribes to research his science and met with many Shamans and local healers.

This is a review for the 50ml Pharmacy bottle sized product which lasted 6 weeks using it day and night on the face and neck area.

Product description

Skin Cream 02:

Dr Jackson is a Pharmacognosist and has formulated this cream using natural extracts of Kigelia, Baobab, Frankincense and Mango Seed Extract. Kigelia is traditionally used to repair and ensure blemish free skin, Baobab helps to alleviate dry and damaged skin, improve skin tone and elasticity, Frankincense for its reputed anti-inflammatory and skin healing capabilities and Mango seed extract for its superior moisturising properties.

Finished 50ml Pharmacy bottle

The product comes housed in a small brown bottle. The glass is tinted which will help to protect against the UV rays from the sun.

This is a thick cream and can feel quite heavy on the skin. Its been great to use during the cold mornings. I have also been using this as a night cream. I find the packaging to be a bit awkward and feel this would be a lot easier to use if it were in an airless pump. As I am a bit clumsy I have dropped the lid a few times which was quite frustrating. It goes onto the skin easily and feels very moisturising. The cream spreads over the face and neck with ease and does not roll off. This cream can easily be used on its own due to its moisturising effects and anti ageing ingredients. This leaves the skin feeling smooth and silky.

Results and review

I have become quite a fan of this cream simply because it smells great and feels very refreshing on the skin. As I mentioned earlier the cream is quite thick which can be a negative for some people with oily skin types but its great for this time of year due to the cold weather. It feels somewhat protective against the elements. I have been using this day and night, it may be a bit heavy on the skin for some people to use at night however, if you have dry skin then this cream is for you. My skin looked flawless in the mornings after using this for a few weeks so refreshed and hydrated. The smell is gorgeous making it almost edible this is a real bonus and makes using this cream a joy.

The cream contains an impressive array of ingredients which some are very anti ageing. The ingredients aim to deliver anti ageing benefits whilst also feeding the skin with nutrients.

Key ingredients include:

Mango seed butter - this is a great emollient which helps to hydrate the skin.

Kigelia - helps to repair skin and keep blemishes at bay it has also been traditionally used for these purposes for many years.

Marula Oil - is becoming a popular ingredient and it is present in this cream, it is a powerful antioxidant meaning it is a free radical scavenger. It helps to smooth and hydrate the skin whilst also reducing redness.

Frankincense -  is great for its fragrance, anti-inflammatory and skin healing capabilities.

Baobab - you may have seen me talk about this fruit in some of my other reviews. Baobab is great for hydrating dry and damaged skin and is known to improve skin tone and elasticity. It is also a powerful antioxidant which will help combat free radical damage. Baobab is also great to be taken as a supplement.

There is a small amount of alcohol in this product which is disappointing however, I have not experienced any indications of irritation. The cream really focuses on keeping the skin hydrated and healing any damaged skin. I have really enjoyed using this cream on a daily basis. I feel it has really improved my skin by making it more plump and healthy looking. The downside as mentioned is the fact it contains alcohol and the packaging is a bit fiddly. I would prefer to see this in an airless pump to protect the cream from the air and bacteria but also for the convenience. This cream is also very expensive at £80 for 50ml. Do I think this is too expensive? Maybe however, you have to consider the amount of research and time that has been put into the special cream and the brand as a whole. Dr Jackson's aim to be an ethical business who consider the environment and aim to be as natural as possible. They also do not test on animals. A small percent of their profits also go towards helping to build the Natural Products Community.

Overall I love this cream, the texture, the smell and the ingredients. It lasted around 6 weeks using it day and night. I would defiantly use this again in the future and I hope you can also give this a go. I would be suprised if you were disappointed by the results.  I have rated this a HGB rating of 4/5 leafs. Have you tried this or any products from the Dr Jackson's range?

  1. Really interesting brand...didnt know it before! :-)

    1. I know, don't you just love finding new brands like this. Dr Jackson's face oil is pretty decent as well. x

  2. Sounds like an interesting brand Danny. I know what you mean about fiddly packaging - it can be annoying when you are trying to get the product out and you end up dropping bits ;) a touch pricey for me but I love the Shamanic link to old plant knowledge :)
